As usual, Daniel Brewis was between the sticks (keeper), with Jack Reid and Ryan Norris in defence.

The game got off to a frantic start with both teams playing a high tempo game with lots of running and effort at both ends.

Jack Tatum opened the scoring after good work on the left by Harvey Thompson and the two were again involved with Harvey Thompson supplying the stand-in striker with his second after excellent link up play through central midfield by Connor Sherriff. At the other end Daniel Brewis handled very well in the conditions, making a couple of block saves and holding onto the ball with the opposing strikers in close proximity. Both defenders were solid and the midfield trio dominated the central areas.

At half time Evan Howard (midfield) and Joseph Hornby (defence) were introduced, with both making an early impact in a strong start to the second half by the Under 8s.

Jack Tatum added a third for his hat-trick, driving a low shot past the keeper after good work on the left by Harvey Thompson, before the midfielder himself got onto the score sheet with a close range effort to stretch the lead to 4-0. Ryan Norris then hit a long shot from the half way line which took a wicked bounce in front of the New Fordley keeper, wind-assisted and hit the top of the net over the keeper’s outstretched hands to make it 5-0.

Evan Howard then drove in from the right and picked up a rebound which he buried with power, before adding his second with a strong break down the right and an unstoppable right foot drive into the bottom left corner of the net to make the final score 7-0.

The ‘man of the match’ award was split for the first time this season with the hat-trick hero, Jack Tatum, sharing the honour with the hat-trick provider, Harvey Thompson. Special praise also went out to Daniel Brewis for keeping an excellent clean sheet and second half defender, Joseph Hornby, who was again impressive in the tackle at the back. However, the whole team played their part in another excellent display to take them to joint third in the ‘friendly’ league, after a post-christmas run of seven straight wins.

The Under 8s play Whitley Bay BC United (top of the ‘friendly’ league) next Saturday, when they will be seeking revenge for a narrow 3-2 reverse before the winter break.

Gary & Graham

Cullercoats FC Under 8s - Match Report (2/4/11 Bedlington Under 8s)

The Under 8s continued their fine form in the KYPC ‘friendly’ league, with an excellent performance against newcomers, Bedlington, in difficult windy conditions.

The game got off to a flying start with early goals from Connor Sherriff (striker, capt.), who was very lively from the start. The midfield trio of Elliot Anderson (central midfield), Harvey Thompson and Jack Tatum created numerous chances in a very one-sided first half into the wind. Connor Sherriff took both chances with super finishes to put the Under 8s into a 2-0 lead, before Elliot Anderson added a third with an excellent half volley into the top corner.

At the back, Daniel Brewis (keeper), Ryan Norris and Jack Reid (defence) dealt very well with the windy conditions, winning numerous balls in the air and marshalling countless long balls from the opposition keeper to safety.

At half time Joseph Hornby and Leighton Alexander were introduced to the wide midfield areas and the team made an immediate impact, wind- assisted, with Elliot Anderson running riot through the central midfield areas, ably assisted by his midfield team mates. He added a second half hat-trick with a close range effort added in between by Harvey Thompson to stretch the score line to 7-0.

Bedlington never stopped competing and got their reward with an excellent volley to claw a goal back, before Jack Reid struck a long range ball forwarded from the edge of his own area, which took a big bounce in the wind and evaded the keeper, to make the final score 8-1 to the Under 8s.

The game was played in good spirit throughout by two quality teams. However, the Under 8s edged the contest through strong running and excellent finishing in front of goal.

Joseph Hornby was awarded ‘man of the match’ for his second half performance in midfield and defence. He won a string of challenges and played an excellent squad performance in different positions, on a day when the whole team could have picked up the award.

The Under 8s play New Fordley on Monday 4/4/11, kick off 6.15pm (meet at 5.30pm).

Gary & Graham

Match Report Under 11s

<span style="font:14px 'Lucida Grande', LucidaGrande, Verdana, sans-serif; It wasnt all plain sailing as cullercoats early defending was shocking early on and they conceded a goal straight from the kick off with nobody challenging the Barca striker who walked through and scored a comical goal past Tony Blacklock. 5 Minutes later and Barca scored again on the break this time as the usual reliable pairing of Oliver Young and Reece Ackinclose left a huge gap which was exploited and finished well by the barca striker. Tactical changes were made at half time with Joe Logan and Jack Ashworth brought on to shore up the full back areas and Oliver Young and David Shipley were pushed into midfield. Luke Monaghan and Josh Irwin also switched wings and it was this deadly duo who got the Home side back in the game as Monaghan scored a quick fire 2nd Half hattrick, exposing some frailties in the Barca defence before Irwin notched his 5th goal of the season to put Cullercoats ahead 4-2. Again the home team didnt make things easy for themselves as they allowed a Barca striker a free run on goal to pull one back and ensure a nervy last 10 minutes. Ponteland could have snatched an equaliser but were unfortunate to hit the woodwork on a couple of occassions and Jack Ashworth also made an excellent goal line clearance. Not the best of performances but 3 points on the board assures that Hexham and Ponteland cannot overtake Cullercoats in the Table and a 4th place finish now looks most likely which is an excellent acheivement this season.

Tony 6, Cullercoats didnt start the game well and fell behind in the first ten minutes after some poor defending from a corner which the home side took full advantage off. Cullercoats soon began to find their feet and began to dominate the midfield area and gain most of the possession. Charlie Barbrook snatched the equaliser shortly before half time when his long range effort took a wicked deflection and deceived the home keeper. With the scores level at the break Cullercoats faced a tough task second half but Luke Monaghan and Lewis Williamson were outstanding down the right and it was this deadly duo which combined to put the away side ahead as monaghan laid an excellent ball into the path of Williamson who dispatched his first goal of the season. In truth the home side never really looked like breaking down the cullercoats defence with Oliver Young and Reece Ackinclose in fine form Tony Blacklock wasnt really threatned as Charlie James Scored a late 3rd and his 8th goal of the campaign to wrap up another good 3 points.

Tony 7, Ethan 7, David 7, Oliver 8, Reece 8, Charlie B 8m Aaron 7, Lewis 9 * MOM, Luke 9, Josh 7, Charlie J 8, Jack 7, Ryan 7, Joe 7

Cullercoats FC Under 8s - Match Report (Tynemouth United Under 8s - 26/3/11)

The Under 8s continued their impressive post-Christmas run on Saturday 26th March 2011, against local neighbours Tynemouth United at KYPC in the ‘friendly’ Some great passing in the midfield between Jack Stronach, Mathew Sharp and Kieron Smith trying to feed lone striker James Branning which resulted in alot of corners but due to the muddy goalmouth it was always going to be difficult to score. Cullercoats were awarded a penalty for a hand ball which was tucked away by birthday boy James Branning. Longbenton equilised not long after and the half finished 1-1. Second half started in the same fashion as the first with cullercoats asking all of the questions. With some fresh legs on it was only a matter of time before the lead was restored via Ben Hall who grabbed two goals to make it 3-1. Jack Stronach scored a fourth from an accute angle. Some brave goalkeeping by Scott Mckie kept the score in cullercoats favour. Mathew Sharp pushed up from defense to add another goal making it 5-1. However, it was a real squad performance which provided the third straight win for the team, which takes them joint fourth with Forest Hall Blues, just one point behind Tynemouth United.

Gary & Graham

Under 11s Match Report

Cramlington 3 - 2 Cullercoats

The under 11s produced an excellent team display and were unfortunate to end up on the losing side against 2nd Placed Cramlington. The home side took the lead on 10 minutes when Cullercoats failed to defend a corner at the near post. Cullercoats began to take a grip on the game and equalised before half time thanks to a charlie james strike. James put in his best performance to date in a cullercoats shirt and turned provider in the second half when he held the ball up well and played a great pass through to Luke monaghan who finished with his left foot. Cramlington as expected played with two tricky wingers but were unable to get them into the game as much thanks to some excellent defending from Cullercoats fullbacks Jack Ashworth and Joe Logan. Cramlington again scored from a corner that was whipped in bell and headed beyond Tony Blacklock. Just as the Match looked to be heading for a fair result, Cramlington snatched a fortnuate winner when the previously faultless Tony Blacklock let comfortable catch slip from his grasp and was cruelly punished. Cullercoats can be very pleased with their play today as they are starting to adapt well to the counter attacking style of play but will need to work a little harder on defending corners.

Tony 7, Joe 9 *MOM , Jack 8, Reece 7, Oliver 7, Aaron 6, David 6, Lewis 8, Charlie J 8, Luke 8, Josh 7, Charlie B 7, Ethan 6

Match Report - Cullercoats Under 8s v Longbenton Under 8s (19/3/11)

The Under 8s maintained their 100% winning record in 2011 in the KYPC ‘friendly’ league on Saturday afternoon, with another impressive and powerful display against Longbenton Under 8s at Killingworth.

Connor Sherriff (striker, capt.) opened the scoring after a bright start. The midfield trio of Harvey Thompson, Elliot Anderson and Jack Tatum took control of the central areas, with Elliot Anderson causing havoc through the middle of the Longbenton defence. All three midfielders got onto the score sheet with excellent finishes as the Under 8s stormed into a 4-0 lead.

Ryan Norris and Jack Reid (defenders) were strong at the back and prevented any meaningful chances, whilst Leighton Alexander (defender) stepped in as emergency keeper in the first half, due to Daniel Brewis (keeper) feeling under the weather.

Joseph Hornby and Evan Howard (midfield) came on to bolster midfield, with Evan making his debut match for the team. On 20 mins the home side forced a fortunate equaliser when a speculative clearance from a defender mananged to sail over the helpless Tony Blacklock (who had earlier pulled off a world class save at his near post). The home side then took the lead when their linesman failed to flag a ball that was clearly over the line and Cullercoats failed to play to the whistle and found themselves 2-1 down at half time. Substitutes Joe Logan and Ethan Dickinson were given a run out in the second half replacing the faultless Charlie Barbrook and Steven Taylor. The home sides ability to shoot from distance meant they added 3 further goals late in the second half but Cullercoats continued to cause Ponteland problems with the speed and trickery of Josh Irwin and Charlie James on the wings. Despite some pretty football cullercoats couldnt get a consolation goal in the second half as they tried to walk the ball in at times rather than test the home keeper. All in all a very spirited display from Cullercoats and the management of the Magpies admitted it was their toughest game of the season so far.

Tony 8, Lewis 8, David 8, Oliver 9, Reece 8, Charlie B 9, Josh 7, Luke 7, Charlie J 7, Aaron 7, Steven 8, Joe 6, Ethan 6.

Holiday Football Coaching Courses

<span style="font:15px Calibri; Luke then turned provider for a change as he played a similar pass to release Josh Irwin who also kept his nerve in fine style when through on the keeper. The Under 11s were in no mood to relax in the second half and with Charlie Barbrook pulling the strings in midfield they soon made it 3-0 thanks to Steven Taylors effort. A thunderous free kick from Skipper Oliver Young found the back of the net to make it 4-0 before Aaron Dixon again made no mistake from the penalty spot. Reece Ackinclose and Jack Ashworth were putting in some outstanding tackles late in the game to try and keep cullercoats clean sheet in tact but the Dynamoes notched a penalty consulation late in the game after Josh Irwin handled in the box. All in all an excellent team display with 5 different goalscorers on the scoresheet. Good also to see Charlie James (AKA Scooter) return to action after 2 months on the sidelines with a broken elbow.

Tony 7, Lewis 7, David 7, Oliver 8, Reece 8 (MOM) , Ethan 7, Steven 8, Charlie B 8, Aaron 8, Josh 8, Luke 8, Ryan 7, Jack 8, Charlie J 7.

'Soccer Centres'

SAFC Foundation are running a number of weekly evening and weekend ‘Soccer Centres’ across Sunderland, South Tyneside and Durham. They were seeking to get their third league win of the season in their sixth fixture.

As usual, the Under 8s made all the early running, with their midfield trio of Connor Sherriff (captain), Joseph Hornby and Harvey Thompson taking complete control through the middle. Jack Reid (striker) once again proved too hot to handle for the opposition defence and it was he who made the break-through in the first five minutes with a well taken interception and shot into the bottom corner of the net, after excellent running by Connor Sherriff, who ran through the WBBC defence at will.

Harvey Thompson and Joseph Hornby also netted with excellent shots from either side of the box to put the Under 8s into a 3-0 half time lead. Dylon Hedley (keeper) in his first full debut, Leighton Alexander and Ryan Norris (defence) all made sure of the first half clean sheet with fine displays.

Jack Tatum (midfield) and Daniel Brewis (defence) were both introduced in the second half and both made an immediate impact. Harvey Thompson netted his second and the team’s fourth with an excellent drive. At the other end Dylon Hedley made an outstanding one-handed save to maintain his clean sheet when a rare Tynemouth break resulted in a great effort towards the top corner of the net.

Connor Sherriff continued to run riot through the central and wide areas in midfield and he delivered an excellent cross from the right for Jack Reid to add his second goal. He then got his just rewards with an excellent driven goal from the edge of the box to make it 6-0, before adding his second goal direct from an excellent free kick into the bottom corner of the net to make it 7-0.

WBBC got a late consolation after a mix-up at the back, but the game was well and truly over by that stage. The match ended 7-1 to the Under 8s.

The whole squad played very well throughout and captain, Connor Sherriff was given special praise for his superb running and commitment throughout the game. However, the ‘man of the match’ award went to Dylon Hedley on his first full debut, after he made a top class save and looked the part, despite being a year younger than the opposition.

Cullercoats u9's v kypc storm
Cullercoats u9's v kypc storm

The match was scrappy which wasn't helped by the muddy pitch. They were looking to bounce straight back from a 2-0 defeat against hosts, KPYC the week before.

The Under 8s started the game strongly, taking control of the midfield battle in the early stages. Connor Sherriff (captain), Harvey Thompson and Joseph Hornby all worked hard through the central areas, with Jack Reid (striker) terrorising the Tynemouth keeper and defence. Joseph Hornby was particularly impressive, making numerous tackles and challenges to win the ball.

Jack Reid opened the scoring and added a second to give the Under 8s a 2-0 lead in the first half. However, Tynemouth struck back with a well taken free kick, which Daniel Brewis (keeper) got his hands to, but could not divert over the crossbar. Ryan Norris and Leighton Alexander (defence) worked hard to keep the opposition out.

The game turned on its head in the second half, with Tynemouth taking control. The Under 8s passing game disappeared in their worst half of football this season. Jack Tatum (midfield) and Dylon Hedley (keeper) were both introduced in the second half and played their part in stemming the flow at the back.

The match ended 5-2 to Tynemouth, despite the Under 8s creating a hatful of chances and having control of the match in the first half.

Joseph Hornby was awarded ‘man of the match’ for his superb tacking display; particularly in the first half.

Prudhoe Youth Club Reds 3 - 4 Cullercoats

The under 11s produced an amazing display of grit and determination to win away at the previously unbeaten Prudhoe. Showing a real passion and will to Win Cullercoats took an Early lead thanks to the lethal Luke Monaghan who turned on a sixpence and rattled in the opener from the edge of the box. Prudhoe somewhat fortunatley equalised when the previously underworked Tony Blacklock was beaten by the elements as a slippery ball eluded him and found the back of the net. This inspired Cullercoats and Monaghan produced another excellent finish as the Under 11s midfield trio of Steven Taylor/Charlie Barbrook and Aaron Dixon continued to pull the strings. Prudhoe went in level at half time when only their second shot of the match took an awkward bobble in front of Tony and bounced to a reds forward who duly dispatched it. Again Cullercoats showed an element of maturity in the second half and some excellent work on the right wing from Ethan Dickinson found Luke in Space again and the prolific striker notched his hattrick. Cullercoats were now under immense pressure from the home side who seemed to find another gear and deservedly equalised this time despite the efforts of Reece Ackinclose and Oliver Young. Determined to steal the 3 points the under 11s went on the attack again and the home side could not handle monaghans pace and trickery in the box again and as his shot was parried, Aaron Dixon followed up and kept his nerve to fire Cullercoats into the lead with 5 minutes on the clock. A nervy ending to the game ensued but Cullercoats held firm thanks to some excellent last ditch defending and jubilant celebrations followed as the final whistle was blown.

MOTM: The whole team 9/10

Cullercoats U9's v KYPC Galaxy

A great game to watch with both sides playing good football. league. They were looking to bounce back after their first defeat of the season the weekend before.

The Under 8s came flying out of the blocks and made the early running, with their midfield taking control in the central areas through captain, Connor Sherriff, who was ably assisted by Harvey Thompson and Joseph Hornby (midfield).

Daniel Brewis stepped in as keeper on the day and was well protected by Ryan Norris and Leighton Alexander (defence), as they kept Forest Hall at bay in an entertaining first half.

Ryan Norris made the break-through when the ball came to him just inside the Forest Hall half on the left. He did not hesitate for a moment and required no controlling touch, as he sent a first time shot from distance over the keeper and into the far corner of the net. It was quite simply an unstoppable shot for the team’s goal of the season to date.

Jack Reid (striker) worked tirelessly up front, winning challenging, throw-ins and creating opportunities for his midfield. However, the first half remained tight and the Under 8s went in with the 1-0 lead at the break.

The second half started the same as the first with the Under 8s pressing for a second goal. Harvey Thompson went close with an excellent left foot drive, which was turned around the post by an excellent keeper in the Forest Hall goal.

Connor Sherriff struck the bar direct from a corner and created other chances from corners and throw-ins, as the Under 8s pushed on. At the other end Daniel Brewis made a fine save at his feet to protect the lead and late on Ryan Norris made a spectacular goal-line clearance from a goal-bound shot to secure the points.

Special praise was handed out to Leighton Alexander and Harvey Thompson who both made a number of crucial tackles in midfield and defence, but ‘man of the match’ was awarded to Ryan Norris for scoring the crucial goal and his last minute goal-line clearance which ensured that the win was secured with the 1-0 victory. All 7 players played their part on the day.

A special mention goes out to young 7 year old (just turned!) Dillon, who was unfortunate not to make his debut in goal. However, Cullercoats played their part with other midfielders, Connor Sherriff (captain) and Joseph Hornby working hard to win the ball and create chances for Jack Reid (striker).

Once again, Harvey Thompson played in goal in the absence of a keeper and made some excellent first half saves. However, following early pressure, Forest Hall were able to convert two early chances to take a 2-0 lead. Ryan Norris and Daniel Brewis (defence) were kept busy throughout and made some great tackles and clearances with the assistance of their midfield team mates. Forest Hall added a third just before half time to stretch their lead.

The second half was much closer and both teams were able to cancel each other out for long spells. Daniel Brewis took over the keeper duties and this released Harvey Thompson into midfield where he made some excellent tackles and clearances in a competitive second half. Leighton Alexander switched to defence where he made an excellent contribution with strong tackles and clearances, which caught the eye of the coaching staff !

Connor Sherriff and Jack Reid both went close with efforts before Forest Hall added a fourth on the break. The match ended 4-0 to Forest Hall, who deserved their victory on the day. However, Cullercoats were unlucky not to score and fought hard throughout the second half in particular.

Leighton Alexander was awarded the ‘man of the match’ award by the coaches for his impressive debut; particularly in defence.

The Under 8s training this week will start at 5.15pm – 6.15pm due to the loss of light.

Gary & Graham

Match Report - HEXHAM FC 1 - 0 CULLERCOATS

Under 11s - 25/9/10

Cullercoats 3 match unbeaten run was ended in cruel circumstances after a long trip to Hexham on Saturday morning. Playing downhill first half on a steep sloping pitch Cullercoats battered Hexham in the opening period but had left their shooting boots at home on this occassion. Strikers Luke Monaghan and Steven Taylor both found themselves through on goal but seemed intimidated at times by the Giant Hexham Keeper who proved impossible to beat. Josh Irwins trickery on the right wing caused no end of problems for the Hexham defence and his cross was almost turned in by Monaghan at the far post but his left footed effort screwed just wide. Hexham rarely troubled the Cullercoats defence early on but managed to lead 1-0 at half time as Cullercoats failed to clear the ball for the first and only time in the match and paid the ultimate price. The second half proved to be quite literally an uphill struggle as the away side could not get forward on enough occassions to really threaten the Hexham rearguard who stood firm. A surging run and cross from Lewis Williamson at right back was the closest Cullercoats came to a second half equaliser, but the ball just wasnt meant to fall to a striker as Hexham cleared. match at Killingworth Young Peoples Centre on Saturday 11th September 2010, in bright and sunny conditions.

The team only have 7 registered players for the start of the season and they were a player short for this match, due to last minute illness for keeper, Callum Geoghan. However, re-enforcements are on the way !!

Cullercoats started strongly and took control of the midfield area. Connor Sherriff (midfield, captain) and Joseph Hornby (midfield) dominated possession through the central areas. Joseph was playing in his first competitive match, after joining the squad only 24 hours earlier. Longbenton struggled to cope with the strength and pace of Connor Sherriff and he created numerous opportunities for Jack Reid (striker), who opened the scoring with a well taken effort when put through one-on-one with the keeper. He added a second quickly afterwards with another close finish, before completing his first half hat-trick with a powerful finish, after creating space for himself.

Harvey Thompson (midfield) stepped in as keeper in the absence of Callum Geoghan and made several good catches, as well as kicking well throughout the match. He was ably assisted by Daniel Brewis and Ryan Norris (defence), who were in excellent form. The score finished 3-0 at half time.

The second half continued the same way, with Cullercoats dominating possession and making all the running. Connor Sherriff continued to be the key player with his pace and passing game and Jack Reid caused havoc up front !!

Jack Reid added two further goals to take his tally to 5, as the team dominated play. The Longbenton keeper had an excellent game and his team continued to work hard, but could not create chances. Connor Sherriff hit the bar with a penalty, following a hand-ball in the area and Harvey Thompson made an excellent save, before changing roles with Daniel Brewis for the last 10 minutes. The game ended 5-0 to Cullercoats.

This was a first class display from a very promising young side, who will be tough to beat this season. Jack Reid was awarded ‘man of the match’ for his goals and fighting spirit up front, but there was special praise for Connor Sherriff, who dominated the central areas and made all the running.

A great team performance overall. Well done.

Gary & Graham.

Cullercoats U9s Match Report

Hi all,

Todays game against Seaton Burn was a well deserved win.

Cllercoats were slow to start and still asleep when Seaton Burn scored first, however Cullercoats eventually woke up and equalised with a goal from Liam O'Neil befor halftime.

The second half started better for the black and whites when they took the lead with a great taken goal from Brendan Sheriff, then Burn Sde equalised agianst the run of play.

Cullercoats then took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored two more goals with O'Neil and Sheriff scorng their braces. Benjamin Hall (midfield) scored the winning goal and the game saw the return of Daniel Henderson (keeper), who marked his return with a clean sheet.

Cullercoats U8s 0 – 4 Tynemouth Yellows (15/4/10)

The Under 8s came up against a much improved Tynemouth Yellows team, who were strong and full of running throughout the game. Tynemouth scored two goals in each half, with some excellent strikes. The Under 8s were not at their best on the night. After suffering injury, Daniel Henderson (keeper) was replaced by Connor Sherriff in goal and Connor went on to pick up the ‘man of the match’ award for his efforts in helping out the team.

Cullercoats U8s 1 – 1 Longbenton (17/4/10)

The Under 8s and Longbenton played well in very difficult windy conditions, which had a big effect on the game. Longbenton played with the wind in the first half and took a 1-0 lead. The Under 8s fought back after the break and scored a good equaliser through Benjamin Hall (midfield).

Cullercoats U8s 1 – 0 Burradon (19/4/10)

The Under 8s were without a couple of players who went down with illness, so the remainder of the squad were called into action in an action-packed match which was competitive and very entertaining. Burradon started the stronger team and had early territorial advantage, but the Under 8s were in excellent form at the back with Daniel Henderson (keeper), Jack Stronach and Ryan Norris (defence) ensured that there were no clear cut chances.

Matty Sharp (midfield, captain) was in fine form and won everything in the air and controlled the central midfield area throughout. He was ably assisted by Ethan Ayre and Daniel Brewis (midfield) in the first half and Kieron Smith and Finan Peach (midfield replacements) in the second.

Connor Sherriff (striker) was back to his best form and scored the winning goal in the first half, after breaking clear of the Burradon defence from a throw in on the right. He sent an unstoppable shot over the head of the approaching keeper, which dropped just under the bar to give the Under 8s the crucial breakthrough.

Matty Sharp was awarded ‘man of the match’ for his excellent display in midfield and special praise was given to Jack Stronach for his defensive display. However, congratulations go to the whole squad for their collective efforts on the night.

______________________________________________________

The Under 8s play their final winter league match on Saturday 24/4/10 against New Fordley. They will then take part in a short spring league competition, before commencing the summer league programme on 12/6/10.
